our initiative for the colorado women's hall of fame
September 2021
Our initiative is intended to help prepare a strong nomination package for Zipporah Parks Hammond to the Colorado Women's Hall of Fame in 2021 with the goal of having her selected for induction to the Hall in the spring of 2023.
The Colorado Women's Hall of Fame is a volunteer operated 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization located in Greenwood Village, CO and founded in 1985. The Hall is dedicated to recognizing and preserving the history of the accomplishments of past and present Colorado women. Both historical and contemporary women have shared foresight, vision, and the power of accomplishment but lacked a forum for recognition. The Hall is dedicated to ensuring that their splendid achievements will not be forgotten. The Colorado Women's Hall of Fame has inducted 152 women since 1985. The previous inductees represent women of various races, backgrounds, economic levels, career choices, political philosophies, and religious beliefs united by their outstanding contributions to society.
The Hall inducts women every two years on an even year cycle. Up to 10 women are inducted at a time. The Hall depends on members of the public to nominate extraordinary women for induction. The next group of extraordinary women will be chosen in late 2021 and inducted into the Hall in March 2023. The deadline for Class of 2023 nominations is October 1, 2021. Once all nominations have been received, a diverse group of citizens, who are experts in their fields, is recruited as a Selection Committee. The Selection Committee reviews all nominations and selects nominees for induction based on the eligibility of the nominee and the strength of the nomination. The Selection Committee presents a slate of nominees to the Colorado Women's Hall of Fame Board of Directors for final approval. The selected women are officially inducted at a ceremony in the Spring.
Eligible nominees are Colorado women, past and present, who have strong ties to the state of Colorado either through birth, residence, the lasting influences of their experiences in Colorado, or by having made their mark in the State. Inductees to the Colorado Women's Hall of Fame all have the following characteristics:
We believe that Zipporah Parks Hammond meets all of these criteria. Her 2021 nomination will provide a compelling justification and supporting materials from friends like you for her selection to join the celebrated members of the Hall.
